Making Our Own STS Solution

This is how we make our STS solution in-house. We always start with distilled water and prep the silver compound and buffer solution separately. Each component is dissolved individually, mixed well, and then stored only in glass containers.

When making STS, the two concentrates are mixed together in controlled amounts. Order and constant stirring are key so the reaction happens right. Freshness is important—we never keep concentrates for more than three weeks.

Once the STS concentrate is ready, we dilute it with distilled water to make the working solution used in our breeding rooms. If the solution gets old, we throw it out and make a new batch.

This solution is applied to feminized autoflowers to trigger male flower growth, letting us collect viable pollen for controlled breeding projects. Applications are repeated every five days—usually two or three times—depending on how the plant responds.
