There are some things that are meant to be together, like rum and coke, ice cream and a sunny day, or wine and cheese. This is also the case for marijuana, there are some things that seem to be destined to be paired with a fat joint.

For example, if you're a stoner you most likely understand that smoking one is essential before heading to the movies, at a museum, or, the best one, at a live music show or festival. When it comes to marijuana and music, it's as if these two were soul mates meant to be together.

I can still remember the first time I was actively listening to music while I was stoned, how all those little sound effects popped up from the back, how clearer I could sense the guitar, bass, and drums, and last but definitely not least, how the lyrics suddenly all made sense.

Let's go through some good albums to listen to while you're high.

Let's go through some good albums to listen to while you're high.

It's just, when we smoke weed, it's as if all of our senses were awaken, and suddenly we become much more perceptive beings. So if you're looking for new music to add to your library, here are the top music albums you must listen to while you're high, including:

  • Rock;
  • Soul;
  • Lo-fi beats;
  • Hip-hop, and more.

Let's check it out!

1. Axis: Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix (1967)

Well, if we're going to talk about music albums that are rather more of an experience than anything else, of course, the first name that popped into our heads was sir Jimi Hendrix. Most likely, if humanity isn't yet doomed, then everyone knows who Jimi Hendrix is and why he's so much of a god for music lovers. In case you're not that familiar with Hendrix, he was an American singer, musician, songwriter, and just one of the most influential electric guitar players in the history of music.

Any of Jimi Hendrix's albums honestly is great to listen to while high.

Any of Jimi Hendrix's albums honestly is great to listen to while high.

The album "Axis: Bold as Love" was the second one to be released by the group The Jimi Hendrix Experience back in 1967 and it consists of 13 songs of pure music trips to be enjoyed while you're stoned off your a***.

Hendrix, who ironically considered himself a lousy singer, liked playing with eccentric and psychedelic sound effects, along with trippy album covers. Get stoned and travel through your brain's galaxies with Jimi.

2. Gorillaz - Gorillaz (2001)

Continuing with the classics, another great album to listen to head to toe while you're high is "Gorillaz", the first album ever to be released by the band.

If you haven't yet ever heard of Gorillaz, you're going to enjoy this. Gorillaz is a whole new world, literally. It consists of a virtual band, created in 1998 by the British musician Damon Albarn, who's also the lead singer in Blur, and artist Jamie Hewlett. The group is formed by the fictional characters of 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle, and Russel Hobbs.

If you like Gorillaz while you're sober, imagine while you're stoned.

If you like Gorillaz while you're sober, imagine while you're stoned.

"Gorillaz" is the band's first album, where they introduce us to their own fictional universe through 15 a-mazing songs and their unique animated videos. I can still recall being young and playing the awesome videoclips on VHS, little did I know that 20 years later I'd still be listening to the same album while I get stoned with friends.

Extra Note:

Blast this album through you car's speaker as you cruise down the streets with the windows down *thug glasses drop*.

Since the band comes from a fictional world, do expect to notice the craziest sounds in their songs, it's like a combination of videogames and sci-fi sounds along with e-guitars, hip-hop bases, and Albarn's unequivocal voice.

3. Bayou Country - Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969)

Keeping it classic, we came along with "Bayou Country", the second studio album released by the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival back in 1969. It's a short, 7 songs album of pure gold, that will hopefully prevail all through the history of humanity.

This is an album especially good for all those rock and blues lovers, with such a countryside feeling that it'll make you travel, I specifically enjoy screaming out and exaggerating the lyrics. This is such a stoner album it's undeniable, just listen to track number 6 "Proud Mary" for proof.

If Bayou Coutry's album cover doesn't scream 'get high!' then I don't know what does.

If Bayou Coutry's album cover doesn't scream 'get high!' then I don't know what does.

So, get stoned and allow yourself to submerge into the beautiful world of the 60's and 70's rock with Creedence's raspy voice in Bayou Country. While it may not be such a complex sound as the two previous albums, sometimes, and this is a great example of it, less is more

Once you go Creedence, there's no turning back.

4. 2001 - Dr. Dre (1999)

Now, let's get a little gangster in here with some Dr. Dre and one of the most famous albums in hip-hop's history, "2001". It's as if every stoner will listen to this album at some point in their stoner life course, and if you yet haven't this is the breaking point.

This is Dr. Dre's second studio album which has turned into kind of a hip-hop bible nowadays. Its beats and ultra thug bases will definitely have you nodding your head up and down to the rhythm as you have a few puffs off a big blunt. We're not saying anything that's not intended, the album cover itself carries a sweet cannabis leaf.

If there ever is a more stoner album than Dr. Dre's 2001 please give us a call.

Besides, if you check out the 23 songs tracklist you might notice that this is an album that counts with many important collabs, with famous names such as Snoop Dogg, our all-time favorite stoner, Eminem, and even Thomas Chong. And last but not least, if you've ever wondered where the most epic stoner song that sings 'smoke weed every day', well it's "The Next Episode" and it's a part of this amazing album.

Get stoned and enjoy with Dr. Dre and friends.

5. What Kinda Music - Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes (2020)

Now this one is more of a modern album, in fact, it was released only recently ago, in April 2020. 'What Kinda Music' is a collaboration album between guitarist, singer, and songwriter Tom Misch and the eccentric jazz drummer Yussef Dayes.

If these names sound completely new to you, Tom Misch is an English who started his music career by producing his own songs and publishing them on SoundCloud in 2012. Now, Misch has grown big into the music industry, touring around the world along with icons such as Eric Clapton, who must have been his idol at some point in his life for sure.

Give What Kinda Music a Play and nod your head to the rhythm of Tom Misch nd Yussef Dayes.

Misch's music is usually a mix of indie or alternative music, along with some hues of funk, neo soul, nu jazz, and hip-hop, although this varies from song to song. In this album, you'll find quite a groovy sound, great for a chill high with friends. Daye's drums are quite notorious, adding the perfect amount of head bouncing to the beats.

6. PICNIC - Cráneo (2018)

Spicing things up a little bit, let's move over to Spain with Cráneo, a lo-fi musician based in Madrid. His songs are also great for a chill high, besides, if you can understand Spanish, then you'll be able to identify the oh-so stoner lyrics.

The thing is, Cráneo is a young musician who sings about his daily life, which is so relatable for the young audience. He likes to skate, smoke weed, and spend time with his friends while they make their crazy videoclips. From my own point of view, Craneo is one of those musicians that give you good vibes and who we'd all like to be friends with.

Of course stoners have to make stoner music, so give Cráneo's album PICNIC a try.

Of course stoners have to make stoner music, so give Cráneo's album PICNIC a try.

Take a listen to this lo-fi album and watch it become one of your most listened to. Besides, the artist himself has made a playlist called 'Get High' full of the beats that inspire him to create his own music, and which he enjoys listening to while he's high with his friends.

7. Frank - Amy Winehouse (2003)

Going back to the classics, we finish the top music albums to listen to while high with the one and only Amy Winehouse and her debut album 'Frank'.

Released in 2003, and often overshadowed by her second studio album 'Back to Black', 'Frank' truly is a gem. In fact, as a big fan of Amy, I'd dare to affirm that this is where you'll find her best creations before it all got slightly more commercial on the second one.

Amy Winehouse loved smoking weed, so honour her by getting high and playing her music!

Amy Winehouse loved smoking weed, so honour her by getting high and playing her music!

Amy was simply unique, her voice is incomparable, and her soul and R&B tints will definitely have you dancing. Besides, she was such an emotional being that her lyrics won't fail to penetrate into your soul. Listening to Amy while you're stoned is a sure nice way of honoring her since she was quite a stoner herself.

8. In Conclusion

Is there a more beautiful way of spending time than getting stoned with friends on a sunny day as you blast your favorite jams? Music and marijuana are indeed best friends, there's no arguing that.

Browse through your music library and keep expanding your music taste! You never know, perhaps you realize you like newer genres you never even imagined, or you may even end up becoming a musician yourself.

Don't forget to comment on what are your favorite beats to listen to while you're high!
