GMO Auto: Bringing the Funk to Autoflowers

GMO Auto was developed to move away from the sweeter side of our autoflower work and explore a heavier, more savoury terpene direction. Instead of chasing fruit, candy or dessert notes, this project focused on something sharper, darker and more old school.

The idea was simple: bring a true GMO style profile into an autoflower line without cleaning it up too much. We wanted the funk to stay loud.

The starting point was a GMO clone sourced in California, chosen for its unmistakable aromatic character. To convert that profile into an autoflower format, we paired it with our Chemdog Auto, a line that could support the project with structure, vigor and the right genetic direction.

From the beginning, the priority was not just to create an auto version of GMO. The goal was to keep the identity recognizable while building a plant that could perform consistently across the population.

Selection Priorities

During the selection process, we focused on plants that carried the strongest savoury expression. Garlic, onion, earthy mushroom and diesel notes were the key markers we followed, especially in individuals that also showed good vigor and balanced development.

Plants that leaned too sweet or moved too far away from the original GMO character were not the direction we wanted. This line had to stay bold, raw and clearly different from the fruit forward autos in the catalogue.

Plant Development

GMO Auto grows with a medium sized frame, solid branching and tight internodal spacing. Across the population, the plants showed reliable development and a balanced hybrid structure, making the line manageable without losing strength or presence.

The flower structure was also an important part of the selection. Instead of pushing for the densest possible buds, we kept a slightly more open formation where it helped protect terpene quality and stay closer to the original GMO expression.

Final Direction

The finished line is a terpene first autoflower with strong old school character, solid resin production and good washing potential. GMO Auto is all about garlic funk, earthy depth and savoury diesel notes into a stable auto format made for growers who want something outside the usual sweet terp lane.

This is not the softest profile in the room, and it was never meant to be. GMO Auto was bred to stand out.
